Chrysalis

Gentle gaze upon the mirror
Staring at a horrid face
Pale like death in sickly skin
Is glaring back from evil space.

Lonesome smile upon the window
Hoping for a sudden glow
To consume the horrid features
With breath anew as white as snow.

Callous hands reach through the glass
Digging deep into the mirror
Past the evil and the shell
To the monster so much nearer.

Crystal eyes of dazzling brown
Gaze upon the last effect
The monster, alas, is rendered gone
And there’s no evil to detect.

A single crack lies in the portal
Spreading through the screaming glass
Loud then silent, the gateway shatters
The window’s gone all too fast.

Peaceful life without the chains
Abounding with your simple smile
Because, you see, your cage has gone
Leaving beauty for the while.
