So I'm just coming off of Spring Break and have recently celebrated the first of two useless birthdays between 18 and 21. I'm back at school and feeling good. This morning, I woke up in New Jersey, where I had been staying for the weekend. This afternoon, I ate lunch in New York City, where I've been shopping around with family for the weekend. This evening, I'm sitting in a friend's common room one entryway over from my own back at school ignoring my academic obligations, as usual. I wasn't initially supposed to be here yet, but a change of plans brought be back to school a day early, and so I got to spend the evening of my nineteenth birthday with several of my friends, and it's been so worth it. We went out to dinner together and shopped around for Easter candy and then sat in a friend's common room and watched a worn out DVD of Blades of Glory. Throughout those activities and beyond, we've chatted and laughed and generally just enjoyed each other's company, and I'm now sitting here still basking in the glow of a day well spent.
I wish I could say I've begun dazzling the world with more of my literary wonders, but I still haven't really found that inspiration that used to so vehemently nag me. Too bad, I suppose. Anyway, I stumbled across the show Dexter on Showtime recently, and it's definitely something else. Dexter Morgan is now one of my favorite characters of all time, and I have to admit I really admire/empathize with the guy on some level, although I'm not a serial killer (I can't really stand the sight of blood). Still, the psychology of the man in his seemingly perpetual drift through empty existence and helpless enslavement to dark urges has been insightful and provocative to me. I'm not all that sure what that says about me, but I'm not too worried. Time will yield what it will, I suppose.
I'm still feeling good, still riding high, and I'm looking forward to the remainder of this semester. Warm days will stay here soon, and then the summer...And then what?
"I dream. I dream I'm floating on the surface of my own life. Watching it unfold. Observing it. I'm the outsider looking in." -Dexter Morgan
